Digital Transformation (DX)

When I was a college student, the word "IT" was booming. It started to put the structure of the company on the computer.

The word "DX" has different meanings depending on the person, but there are also efforts to use new technologies to do things that were not possible during the IT boom.

DX type

In manuals, there are topics such as "difference between DX and digitization" and "real DX", but they differ depending on the position and way of thinking of each author.

From a practical standpoint, I want to make the most profitable way of understanding, so on this site, all of the various DXs are referred to as "DXs".

From such a standpoint, it can be broadly divided into two types: business model DX and business DX.

Business model DX

By using technologies such as the Internet and image recognition, a Business Model that has never existed in the world has been born.

Some companies are starting up with such a business model from the beginning, but changing an existing company to such a business model is called DX.

Business DX

What was once called "IT" is also a type of DX. We will replace what used to be paper with digital technology and enable it to be executed in IT systems.

In addition, what was once called "visualization" that uses digital technology such as sensors and cameras is a type of DX.

With the progress of digital technology, it has become possible to make IT and visualization that were not possible before, and this is the DX that enhances the efficiency and accuracy of business.

Difference between business model DX and business DX

Of the business model DX and the business DX, the relatively large scale is the business model DX, and if you are looking at a part of the business, it is the business DX, but in some cases it can be said to be either.

For example, a DX with a small business model may not be much different from a business DX. Also, if the DX is enough to reconstruct the entire business flow, it may not be much different from the DX of the business model depending on the scale of the assumed business flow.

How to proceed with DX

There are two main cases, one is to proceed from the means and the other is to proceed from the purpose, but in reality, it seems best to have both in parallel. It's easy to get stuck if you use only one of them.

In any case, there is something that already exists, and what changes from there is transformation.

Proceed from methods

With some digital technologies in mind, find a place where you can use it with the feeling of "where can I use it?"

This process is easy to get started, although you need to be careful not to make it the purpose.

Proceed from purpose

Whether or not to use digital technology is set aside, and business (business, structure) is designed with the purpose of "I want to achieve this" in mind.

It will be a redesign of the Business flow. In particular, in the business flow, the flow of information and the part of how to collect information are the points to use digital technology.

Since DX often involves system development, the points of interest in the field of system development, such as requirement definition and business design, can be helpful.

The points of DX are broadly divided into the perspective of departmental collaboration and the perspective of departmental collaboration. Furthermore, for each viewpoint, there is a viewpoint to review the overall flow and a viewpoint to review individual flows.

Focusing points of DX in the manufacturing industry

In the case of the manufacturing industry, departments are divided according to roles such as development, manufacturing, maintenance, sales, orders, and purchasing, centering on factories that can manufacture products, and the flow for each to cooperate and within each department. Reengineering

Reengineering was advocated in the 1990s. It means recreating the way of doing business according to the situation. Although it is not premised on using digital technology, the content of the effort is similar to DX.

Continuing a difficult job can be a daunting task, but it can be forced to decline as the times change. If a company wants to develop sustainably, it is also necessary to dismantle and recreate the shape once it was created.

The best feature of re-engineering is "re (again)". Rather than so-called "improvement" or "new launch" , reengineering aims to change operations from a more fundamental point.
